How to Enjoy Fresh Cherries: Tips and Recipes

Fresh cherries are in season and I’ve been buying a bag each week at Aldi. They’re so good in everything from yogurt to fruit cups or my favorite cherry dessert – individual berry cobblers. Yum! The Individual Berry Cobblers (which are essentially quick, personal-sized fruit crisps) feature a warm, jammy berry base topped with a sweet, buttery oatmeal crumble. You can easily scale this recipe to make exactly as many servings as you need.

I recently stumbled across a delicious Cherry Almond Baked Oatmeal from Magnolia Magazine that has become our favorite baked oatmeal! It’s the perfect combination of sweetness and wholesomeness for breakfast time.

They added dried cherries to the recipe and once baked, those cherries plump up so flavorful and juicy! Then I add fresh cherries after it’s baked. Wow. Please get a copy of the magazine and make this!

I’ve looked for a copy of the recipe on the Internet, and haven’t found it, so I don’t feel I should publish the recipe here yet. That magazine issue is super good. You won’t regret purchasing it!

I found another recipe on Pinterest that is similar and a little more healthy here. I think I’m going to try it in the next couple of weeks and see if it tastes close to the Magnolia recipe.

I’m making Chicken Salad this week and I’m planning to add cherries to add a little sweetness. I think it’s going to make for the perfect lunch!!

I’m also dreaming of spreading some sour dough toast with Honey goat cheese and then topping it with cherries!

If you want to pit the cherries to keep them whole, the easiest way is to push a glass straw (or some other kind of sturdy straw) through the middle of the fruit. The pit will pop right through. I do this over the sink to keep the cherry juices from splashing everywhere. In between cherries, blow gently into the straw to remove any of the cherry flesh.

I’m also anxious to try my favorite Sonic beverage at home – Cherry Limeades. There are plenty of good and easy recipes on Pinterest! I’ll keep you posted!

Be sure to watch my Instagram this week for pictures of these cherry recipes. I’ll be posting my pictures there.

Happy cherry season!
