Discovering My Spiritual Gift (s)
I have a friend who is the best person at giving gifts! She just has such a knack at knowing what people would enjoy! She’s creative, on-time, and right on target with the needs of the receiver. It just seems so easy for her.
If you’ve ever been to the home of another one of my friends at our church, you’ll see hospitality being displayed in such an effortless way. She welcomes with her heart before you even enter the doorway of her house. As a matter of fact, if you see her at church, you sense that warm hospitable heart in the aisle and pew. It’s not about the food she makes or the home in which she lives; it’s her spirit. Everyone feels so accepted and loved by her. I just don’t know how she does it!

There’s nothing quite like getting home from a week away and being handed ready-homemade meals. That was my “welcome home” blessing from my girls this weekend. After being with my parents for eight days while my dad has been in the hospital (and now in rehab), I came home on Friday. My body, heart and emotions were spent, but I was so thankful I could be there to help. It’s a joy, and the Lord gave strength each step of the way.
Coming home was God’s timing, which made it especially sweet. Whitney was in Tennessee visiting her sister for 24 hours, so we all got to be together (another blessing!). Then before we parted, they handed me containers of food that they had prepared for us, to lighten my load! Supper/lunch meals consisting of a chicken casserole, salad, homemade bread, and chili. Then for breakfast, Pumpkin Banana Coffee Cake and bananas. I cried. How thoughtful. How appreciated! It truly touched my heart.

“And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.”
Matthew 8:13
In this passage of scripture, the nobleman had a dear servant/friend who was very sick. He cared for him and wanted him to get well. He did the one thing most of us fail to do when we have a need. He had great faith and told Jesus he believed that if He just spoke the word, his servant could be healed. Then, as a result of this man’s great faith in the Son of God, it happened in that very way! He was made WHOLE!
What if the nobleman had said,
I’m not sure Jesus can totally heal him, but maybe He can make my servant feel a little better?

I had looked at the triangular yellow sign on the ceiling for six days. It was placed above the patient bed of the hospital where my dad had been admitted. I knew that hospital staff would boast how many days since their last patient had fallen, proving that they were capable and conscientious. I read it the first day I arrived to help assist in caring for my father, then the days following, like a freckle on my face, I had just gotten used to seeing it, and overlooked it – that is until a crucial moment in my dad’s care happened.
