Find refreshment for your heart, home and life
Can you imagine walking through the hedge pictured above? If it was even possible to do, you couldn’t do it without coming out injured! Proverbs 15:19 says,
The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns:
but the way of the righteous is made plain.
In other words, the way the lazy person takes is a hard path; he makes things more difficult by his slothfulness. How so?

It happens to everyone at least once in their lifetime – the betrayal of a dear friend. My memories of Sundays when I was growing up are of dinner at home for the most part. It was a special meal after church. Though it was noon-ish, we didn’t come home to sandwiches, like all the other noonday meals, but usually to a roast, or chicken. When I got married, I continued that tradition. To me it helps make Sunday stand out, and I think it also makes the family and guests feel special. It slows the day down after a busy morning serving at church, and I love that!
That being said, the meal doesn’t have to be something difficult. Thank the Lord for the crock pot! I love being able to toss the meal inside, set it on low, and head out the door, confident that when we walk back into the house, the delicious smells of supper will greet us and draw us in like my Grandma Ray’s arms used to do.
Last Saturday when I was contemplating what to make for Sunday dinner, a recipe popped into my head that I had not made in years. It’s a Baked Steak with Mushrooms. Don’t worry, if you don’t like mushrooms, you don’t have to add them. Also, rather than baking this, I put it into the crock pot. I was worried that the piece of steak I had would be a little tough, and the slow cooker would help to make it tender…oh my, did it ever!!

For the last nine weeks, we have traveled to Brevard, NC to spend Tuesday through Thursday ministering alongside the sponsors – those who bring campers to the campsite.
It’s been an incredible summer of serving, praying, talking, encouraging, but also being strengthened and so blessed in the midst of the busy and very full days.
Many people who learn of our opportunity to serve at The Wilds have said things like, “Well, how did YOU get to do that?!” Or, “Man, you’re living the dream!” If you’ve ever been to The Wilds you understand what they’re saying, and I certainly get it, too. But I would be lying if I said it was always easy. I often felt like an exile. Does that sound strange? Here’s the reason –
Continue reading “Serving = Sacrifice”As we continue to think about the fall of men and women into sin, we truly come to the best part – our redemption through the Lord Jesus Christ. We were desperate without hope, left with only a sinful nature that resisted God’s perfect plan for our role as a woman. But then God stepped in.
The eternal Son of God took on human nature as a man. He was born of a woman – He is the promised offspring of Eve. Scripture presents Christ as the second Adam, the perfect man. As Colossians 1:15 says, “He is the image of God” in the deepest, fullest sense. He offered his life as a sacrifice, rose from the grave, and calls men and women alike to repent and believe in him. So, now that Christ has redeemed us from the curse, what does the New Testament teach us about living as men and women?
Men and women both need a Savior!
Galatians 3:28 says, “There is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” In other words, neither gender is more spiritually worthy; both men and women are heirs of redemption, part of the body of Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit.
Some have taken this and said that there is no legitimate distinction, in God’s kingdom, between male and female. But just because our sex has no role to play in our salvation doesn’t mean that we somehow become genderless beings,
