Refreshing Your Home This Spring

Springtime is the time for sprucing things up! It doesn’t always have to be a huge project – sometimes just a deep spring cleaning will do it. Other times a greater change is needed.

For us, this spring meant it was time to paint. Isn’t it amazing what a can of paint will do to a room?! We’ve lived in our house twelve years, and the color of the walls and the paint itself were showing their age. We painted downstairs two years ago and it made such a difference! I knew it was time for that kind of refresh upstairs.

The updated color downstairs.

Four Biblical Principles for Overcoming Anxiety

You can listen to this post here on Refresh Her podcast.

I had a young woman reach out to me recently with this request  – She said:

I have been struggling with anxiety over current events recently.  It is so hard as a Christian because my God has been so faithful in taking care of me, but in my weakness, I am still fearful.  Do you have any advice or favorite go-to Bible verses or songs that you would recommend?

I’m fairly certain that MANY or most of us could concur that this is a very prevalent truth in each of our lives.  I don’t even need to list for you the reasons we could be fearful – we all have personal scenarios and situations that pop up daily that threaten to steal our peace, that could cause us to feel like we’re drowning in our own anxiety.

Brighten Your Spring with Lemon Muffins

What says, spring more than lemon-flavor? I love its tanginess, its brightness and even its color. I have many delicious lemon recipes that I’ve used over the years, including Lemon Loaf, Lemon Meringue Pie, Lemon Pudding Cake and Coconut Cake with Lemon Curd. But since you can’t have too many lemon recipes, I recently made a Lemon Muffin that paired well with the Rotisserie Chicken Dinner I served. My husband loved them! They were equally as good served alongside our breakfast the next morning!

Choosing Wisely: Lessons from Filling Out an NCAA Bracket

I did something today I’ve never done before. I filled out a bracket for the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Our family created a group where we each filled out brackets to see who will be the “winner.”

I enjoy basketball when “my team” is playing, but I’m not by any means an avid fan. When I was asked to join the family group I was told I needed to create a user name. I decided on, Lucky Guess. You can probably figure out why! I have no idea:

How well all the teams play.

Who the best players are.

Who is most likely to win!

I was even told that some girls pick winning teams simply by the color of the team they like best! That sounded good, so I did a little of that when making my choices. If the color didn’t influence me, I looked at home of the teams and picked the “place” I liked, or from which I had memories! Crazy, right?

Creating a Loving Atmosphere at Home

This is the conclusion of our discussion about managing our homes in a series I’ve called, Maytag, messes and meals.  You can listen to this post here on Refresh Her podcast.

In the previous posts we’ve dealt with the laundry, the housekeeping and the meals.  Let’s wrap up with some thoughts that will encourage you in your day to day management.

  1. Prepare your heart for the day. Talk to the Lord about your day and your work.  Give it to Him.

Ps. 90:17 And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

Proverbs 16:3

Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.

So often, the things I worried about and wondered how I’d get done never happened! Giving it to the Lord keeps you from worrying before it takes place, then allows you to see a gracious God moving things out of the way and/or giving you strength to get it done.
But it starts with preparing your heart.
