Maytag, Messes & Meals

The podcast for this post has more details. You can listen here.

I have never built a home, yet I am a home builder. As a matter of fact, if you live in a home with at least one other person, you are a home-builder, too.

Every wise woman builds her house,

but the foolish plucks it down with her hands.

Proverbs 14:1

That verse reminds us that we are either building up or tearing down.

Recently I have had a couple of conversations about what is expected as far as the condition of our homes. Women have wondered,

Does it really matter that my home is a mess?”

Spending Up the Treasure of a Godly Home

You can listen to this post on Refresh Her Podcast

Have you heard of people who win millions of dollars, then end up being paupers in a decade or less? It happens. They foolishly spend up their winnings, rather than using it wisely. In a much more severe loss than even material gain, you and I can waste away the treasure of a godly home, losing the valuable gift that God desires for every family. The “I Will’s” of Homemaking

I’m the kind of person who needs a picture drawn in order to understand things better. Anyone else like that? Being a homemaker is drawn out so well in God’s Word, and it reveals that it’s more about who we are than what we do. It can seem overwhelming, but it’s really not as hard as we make it.

As a follow-up on my post on Wednesday about weaving a tapestry of beauty in our home, I”d like to offer two suggestions that will help us know how to implement those truths in God’s Word. My suggestions are regarding the list of “I will’s” that Elizabeth wrote in her book (A Woman After God’s Own Heart). My suggestions are given with a desire for all of us to implement these disciplines into our daily lives. How can we do that?

How I Intentionally “Built” My Home This Week

In this recent post, I suggested…

Every day do one thing to build your home.

Being inspired by Ina Garten’s quote that said, A good home should gather you up in his arms like a warm cashmere blanket, soothe your hurt feelings, and prepare you to go back out into that big bad world tomorrow all ready to fight the dragons” I wondered how I had accomplished this in my home this week.

As I thought back on it, here’s what I came up with –
