Springtime is the time for sprucing things up! It doesn’t always have to be a huge project – sometimes just a deep spring cleaning will do it. Other times a greater change is needed.
For us, this spring meant it was time to paint. Isn’t it amazing what a can of paint will do to a room?! We’ve lived in our house twelve years, and the color of the walls and the paint itself were showing their age. We painted downstairs two years ago and it made such a difference! I knew it was time for that kind of refresh upstairs.
It’s almost officially spring and I couldn’t be happier! I’ve been going around the house lightening up the colors, removing heavy blankets from the sofas, and adding a few touches of decor. I took my battery operated candles from the windows when daylight Savings Time arrived, too.
I’m going to give you a little peek into my kitchen to show you how I’ve implemented the spring season there.
Okay, you may still be looking at white, fluffy snow outside your window, but you know that spring is around the corner somewhere! Why not use this time while you have little desire to go outside to get the spring cleaning taken care of? That way when it’s pretty you won’t feel so bad about Continue reading “Spring Cleaning Tips”→
Today’s post will be mostly a picture album of some changes I’ve made at home to turn things from winter to spring!! I love how bright and cheery it makes the house! Ready?
The mantle…
Coffee Table (and mantle in the background)…
Living room bookshelves…
I added lighting to the top, and middle shelves. It doesn’t matter how pretty something is decorated, if it’s in the dark, no one can see it! I used little battery operated lights on the shelves – see them beside the two bottom arrows below. I also put battery operated votives in the candle holders for light on the bottom shelf (above).
The Dining room…
The entryway…
My kitchen window… The cafe curtain is just two cloth napkins on the rod. I change them out seasonally to lighten up the window!
My craft room also got some spring cleaning, straightening and redecorating…
Adding softness to the table with the placemat really helped! The quilt over the chair is another way I added texture. It’s amazing how little changes can make a big difference!
Take a step back and see what winter decor needs to be removed from your home and then let the sunshine in! Show your love for home by adding spring touches.
It’s springtime!! Woo hoo!! It’s time to clean off the porches so they’re ready to greet your family and friends. After a long winter, they need some good overhaul to be fresh and inviting! Here’s what I do:
Sweep off the whole area – porch, steps, and driveway.
Dust the corners, and wipe down any furniture on the porch.
Clean the glass door with glass cleaner. Do it when the sun isn’t shining on it – that will help prevent streaks.
Look at your door mat. If it looks weary, tired and dirty, replace it with a fresh, spring-y rug.
Add a spring wreath.
Add a little touch of something green.
Add a garden flag or stepping stone
One thing I love to do in spring and summer is walk through the garden area at Lowe’s! I get so excited about adding flowers, herbs and all things green to my yard when it turns warm! Though it is the time to get the front porch in shape, NOW is NOT the time to add annuals because we’re still dealing with dipping temperatures.
Remember that even if you don’t come in your front door, that’s what your guests will see first, so let it give them a grand welcome!
