Cozy rooms are so inviting, but how do we create that atmosphere? Is it by our signature style? Paint? The furniture? If I could only give one way to make a room inviting, my word would be lighting. It makes all the difference in the world.
I love adding lights at varied heights and brightness. Lamps help with tasks, like reading or handwork, and a dim light can make a dark corner glow with warmth. I’ve recently added some lights to my house and I’m loving the difference they’ve made!
I have several lamps in my living room, but the bookshelves seemed cold, if you will. Then one day I was a HomeGoods and spotted this little blue beauty.
I wasn’t sure where I would put it, but at less than $20, I knew I had a spot somewhere I could use it. When I placed it on the bookshelf, it felt right. Looking at the whole room, I decided to find something that would coordinate for the bookshelf on the other side. Then I found this one which I have to say I love even more!
I really feel like it gave the living room that soft glow it needed. Now when we get up in the early morning, we turn those two lamps on and it gives just enough light. In the evening we can sit with a couple other brighter lights and it’s not blinding, but soft and inviting.
If you’re wondering what I did about the cords, I tucked them behind the books on the shelves, led the cord towards the outside wall and plugged it into an extension cord. It’s hardly noticeable!
I want to share one other little light I’ve added to the “water closet” in our bathroom, which has no outlet in it. It’s just a battery-operated hospitality light that you would normally put in a window. I put a small lampshade on it to give a little light for nighttime. I love the way it looks, and also appreciate the light in the middle of the night!
Is there a spot in your house that needs cozying up with a little light?
If you could only share one way to make a room cozy, what would you say?

Those lamps are perfect! I love that they coordinate but aren’t matchy matchy. And what a smart idea for lighting in your water closet!

I like how you hide the cords to the lamps in the bookshelves. I think that look does look warm and cozy.

And I meant to tell you I use a lot of those battery operated candles in my home. They add a lot of coziness to a room.
