Spring Cleaning Lists

FREE Printable Spring Cleaning Checklist - also great for getting your home ready to sell! Includes whole home, outdoors, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, and living room. Sping Cleaning is much more fun when you have a fun, colorful printable checklist!:
List from SouthernMelle.com

March is a great time to begin to refresh your home for spring.  After a house has been closed up for the winter, it needs some deep cleaning, purging and refreshing. Fireplaces create grime on the inside windows, heat ducts create dust and people create clutter!  I started in this week with windows and was amazed at how dirty they were!  It made me determined to get things really clean again.  How about you?  Are you in the same  cleaning mode?

If you need help with what you might need to do, I’ve gathered some great lists I found on the Internet.  Find one that suits your home and needs, then print it off and work at it a little at a time so you won’t feel overwhelmed.  Give yourself a month to get it done. You might even make a target “finish” date and put a reminder on your calendar.

Ready?  Here they are:

Simply Stacie has a really thorough room-by-room list here.

Yet Another Mom Blogger has a PDF or electronic list you can get here .

Premeditated Leftovers has specifics in each room if you need a little more detail about what you need to do.

Passion for Savings has a color or black and white list you can print off.

The Happiest Place On the Earth!

I just heard a comment from a high school senior on her senior trip to Disney World say,

“This has to be the happiest place on the earth!”

Having been there I can understand her sentiment. With beautiful flowers everywhere, light-hearted music, Mickey and Minnie, fun food, fun rides and fun times. Of course it’s a happy place!

There is another place that should be one of the happiest places on this earth –home. Home should be the most loving, secure and fun place for a child.

What will you do today to make it that way for your little ones? Are you homeschooling? Incorporate spring ideas into math or phonics reviews – put the facts on little paper kites made from construction paper and with each fact they get correct, let them hang the kite on the wall and let it fly! Perhaps you could give them a goal for the week – learning a certain number of new facts and then when it’s accomplished you and your child go fly a real kite.

Change things around today. Let your children eat their dessert first! Have lunch under the table instead of on it. Go to the library and get new books – perhaps books about spring, baby lambs or even a child’s cookbook. Read together in a new place – build a comfy spot on the floor with pillows and cushions or make a tent using all the kitchen chairs as props.

Play uplifting music – Patch the Pirate, The Donut Man, etc. Let the atmosphere of your home be encouraging for them. It’s easy to play what we like instead of what they would enjoy.

How about some fun food? Cut their sandwich into shapes using cookie cutters. Peanut butter and jelly can take on a whole new taste when it’s cut differently! Family Fun has tons of great food ideas for children.

Make your home the “happiest place on the earth” by taking time to be with your children and using creativity to make each day one they won’t forget!

Did you add a fun element to home recently that you could share?  We’d love to hear!

An Easy Remedy For Dusty Lampshades

lamp1.jpg

Okay, so today’s post isn’t going to wow you, maybe, but it just might simplify your life!  Isn’t that one reason we read blogs and search the Internet?!  Maybe you’re figuring out tough things and reading the political reports, but I’m always on the search for helpful tips!

Recently I was sitting beside the floor lamp in my bedroom. and saw fluffy lint hanging on it.  Seriously?  I thought I’d vacuumed that just recently!  I didn’t feel like pulling the  vacuum out and attaching the upholstery cleaner on it at the time, so I just brushed it off for the time being.

Then last week when I was visiting my mom, I saw her pull out a lint roller and give her lampshades a swish.  Lint and dust particles were gone in a few easy strokes!  I came home and did the same magic on my lampshades and you know what?  It works better than the vacuum!

You don’t realize how dusty the shades are until you take a look at the roller!  But the good thing is, now it’s a cinch to keep them from getting to the nasty stage!

Moms are great for little tips, aren’t they?  Thanks for sharing that one with me, Mom.  I knew as soon as you showed it to me that I’d have to share it so my readers could refresh their lamps, too! It’s all about the little things, folks!

Do you have exciting things planned for the weekend?  We’re hosting our missionaries to Brazil in our home this weekend, having a church Valentine dinner at a Mexican restaurant Saturday night, and are looking forward to a special time in church all day Sunday!  Monday will be our own Valentine celebration – more about that later!  What are your plans for the weekend?

Take the “Eeeew” Out of the Shower

When I go to a hotel, I take a look into the shower to check and make sure it’s clean.  I get the heeby-jeebies if there’s a shower curtain that looks slightly questionable.   Anyone else like that?  I’m thankful that most hotels now have the shower curtains without a liner that is replaced with each guest. Whew.

BUUUUT, What can we do about the shower at home?  We can’t replace the curtain liner every day, like the hotel does.  My method for keeping the curtain from getting to the  “eeeew” stage is to:

  1. Take the liner down about once a month and toss into a hot cycle in the washing machine.
  2. When it’s finished, shake it out a bit in the washer to get out puddles of water.
  3. Toss it into a laundry basket and take it back to its home and hang it up to dry.

When I hang the wet liner back up, its hem is clean, the soap splashes are gone, and it is even worthy of a finicky guest…me!

What are your tips to taking the “Eeeew out of the shower?
