Baked Chicken that Makes Its Own Gravy

In the Old days women made amazing Sunday dinners that included yummy fixings like Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and white, cream gravy.  But also in the old days, everyone had to wait until 2:00 to eat dinner!  Most of us are starving when we get home from church, and if dinner isn’t on the table in thirty minutes, people at my house start snacking!

Lucky for me, years ago I found a recipe from Carnation Evaporated Milk that is called,  Baked Chicken that Makes it own Gravy!  No need to stand and fry chicken pieces after church – this dish is baked in the oven, topped with a Cream soup mixture and baked a little longer, yielding a lovely creamy gravy – perfect for those mashed potatoes that were cooked in the crock pot!

People Are More Important than Things

After a two-day trip away, my husband returned home.  It was a snowy, wet night, and because the garage was full with two cars inside –  mine and our daughter’s, he parked in the slushy driveway and stepped inside.  His shoes dripped with the remains of the winter weather, so he stepped across the hardwood floor onto the dining room rug…the “pretty” rug meant for covering the floor, but not necessarily for wiping wet feet.  I inwardly cringed, then asked,

You can listen to this post on Refresh Her Podcast

In a much more severe loss than even material gain, you and I can waste away the treasure of a godly home, losing the valuable gift that God desires for every family. There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man spendeth it up. Proverbs 21:20

How do we spend up the treasure of a godly home?

Refresh Yourself by Refreshing Someone Else

Do you ever just feel like you’re in a sort of slump?  It’s kind of a blah-ness about everything, if you will.  There are lots of reasons for the feeling, but there is one sure cure!  Proverbs 11:25 says,

He that waters shall be watered also himself.

In other words, when you do something for someone else, you reap the benefit for yourself too! I’ve found that when I have the “blah” feeling, if I stop thinking about me and start thinking about someone else, I end up more encouraged than the person to whom I’m reaching out.

I love reading in Genesis 40 about Joseph who was locked up in prison after being wrongly accused, yet he noticed the sad faces of the cupbearer and baker one morning and stopped in inquire. That’s thinking of others instead of yourself! What a wonderful challenge it is to my heart that is often so selfish and self-focused!

Here are some suggestions of ways we could reach out to someone else this week:
