Weekly Highlights

Highlights are defined as “An outstanding part of an event or time.” A look at my photos from this past week are full of sweet blessings – highlights. I’m sharing them, not to pretend there weren’t also low times, but to thank and acknowledge the Lord for His goodness and mercies! He is a loving God! Here are a handful.

Of course, being a cat lover, I have many photos of Liza Jane. She’s the sweetest kitty. I’m enjoying her older years. She’s lovable, cuddly and loves her cozy napping spots!

There’s another peek at Liza in a napping basket!

I had the blessing of spending a few days with my parents in Kentucky.

We celebrated our Christmas together, complete with gifts AND even a delicious Christmas dinner. Is there anything like eating at your mom’s table?! Sunday evening we ended the day with “Christmas Tea.” So yummy and so delicious!

My daughter Alli and I got to go to lunch – just the two of us! We went to the downtown of the city where I live and enjoyed lunch, heart to heart conversation and then some fun shopping! I treasure those times!

I’ve started another read through the Bible in 2022. I’m using the chronological plan, and also The Bible Recap with Tara Leigh Cobble. Her recap is like a mini commentary on each day’s reading. It’s been so helpful!

It’s been a blessed first week of 2022! How has your year started? What are some of your highlights? Also, I’m curious, have you begun a Bible reading plan?

Enjoy and bless God for His good gifts,

Friday Favorites

What a great week this has been. These days before Christmas are so much fun. Yes, they are full, but full of  blessings! Here are some of my favorites –

What I’m reading:
The Four Streams Bible Reading Plan

I’m almost finished reading through my Bible in a year. What a blessing it’s been to read through the “Four Streams” plan on You Version! It takes you through the New Testament four times, Proverbs four times, the Psalms twice, and the Old testament once. As mentioned here, I’ve been listening to the audio as I follow along in my Bible. That’s been a great addition!

Projects I’ve worked on…
A blanket scarf.

I bought shirting flannel for $4.50 a yard. I frayed all four sides and folded it in a triangle and tied it in the front. It’s perfect and perfectly warm! I wore it yesterday when it was in the 20’s and it kept me toasty while I was outside!
I did another scarf in a long rectangle, cutting it in half, lengthwise and putting a seam in the middle.

These were fun projects that gave me two flannel scarves for under $10!

The most surprising thing I’ve seen…
An Elf!

It’s not every day you see an elf walking down the street! If only I could’ve gotten her to come home and help with the rest of my gift wrapping!  =)  This was at Dollywood where we went to see the Christmas lights and the shows.  Dollywood gives the Gospel in every Christmas show!  It’s wonderful!

She so sweetly posed for my picture!

What’s been cooking in my kitchen…
Santa Munch

This is a mix of popcorn and pretzels, covered in white chocolate and M&M’s added in! Popcorn is my very favorite snack. This stuff is heaven!

The cutest recent picture of Liza

Helping me wrap gifts…you know, since the elf couldn’t help!

It’s not the huge things that stand out – it’s the little blessings God allows that make the days and moments special.  A special verse or chapter of Scripture, a laugh, a crafted treasure, a treat, a curious kitty.  They’re all gifts from my loving Father and I thank Him for each one!

It’s also going to be a great weekend and I’m super excited about what’s planned!
What has a highlight in your week been?

Stay refreshed!

2016 – Pray, Plan, Change

On Tuesday of this week I suggested time for a spiritual check-up before the new year rolls in.  If you happened to come in at the feverish end of the thermometer, don’t feel guilty, but feel hopeful!  Why?  Because a new year, clean and fresh lies in front of you with  grace and mercies to equip you to get healthy!

Can I give you a “prescription” or two that might aid your journey?

  • Pray – Ask the Lord to show you where you need to change in your spiritual life.  Be still after you ask.  Listen to the Spirit’s tugging in your heart.
  • Plan – Now you’re ready to take what the Lord has shown you and set set some goals so you’ll know when you’ve arrived at the desired place.
  • Change – Avoid getting into a dry, stale routine that will cause you to weary quickly.
    • Choose a different Bible reading plan.
    • You might even want to find a new place to sit and read and pray.
    • Start a fresh, new journal for your new plan!
    • Use a different color pen for this year’s prayer requests, so you’ll know that they were added to your prayer journal in 2016.
    •  Don’t have a journal?  Well, that might be another goal to set!

I implemented a Bible reading plan in December that is called Four Streams.  I found it on my You Version app.  I am enjoying it so much!  The four streams are the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs.  With this plan in one year I will:

  • Read through the New Testament 4 times
  • Read through the Old Testament once
  • Read the Proverbs 4 times
  • Read the Psalms twice

Another little tweak I’m adding is that rather than reading,  I’m listening to the audio version.  With my pen in hand and my notebook open, I listen and take notes as the Lord speaks to my heart.  This has been a really special addition to my devotional time!

Strive this year to make the Word the central focus of your life.  Reading regularly each day will enable you to do just that.  The entrance of His Word gives light; allow His light to shine in 2016.

How are you planning to be in God’s Word this next year?  I’d love to hear your plans!
