Freshen Up Friday – Enjoying Adult Parent/Child Relationships

In the next couple weeks a significant birthday is coming my way.  My daughters came to me earlier this year, telling me that they were planning a Girl’s Weekend Away so we might celebrate my day together.

Wow.

I was so touched by their thoughtfulness.  To think that ~

  1. They remembered it was going to be a significant birthday.
  2. They wanted to do something for me to celebrate it.
  3. They planned it all and simply invited me to join them.
  4. They wanted to spend a whole weekend together.

It was just a blessing that truly touched my heart.  I was surprised, excited and so grateful.

To tell you the truth, I also felt a little guilty about it because I know of other older moms Continue reading “Freshen Up Friday – Enjoying Adult Parent/Child Relationships”

Memorizing Scripture

How To Memorize Scripture

Last week I shared a video in which I recited a chapter from the Book of James.  It’s only by God’s grace that I have it tucked away in my heart.  I only shared that to encourage others that if I can memorize the Bible, so can you.  At nearly 60, and with a poor memory, it truly doesn’t come natural.  But it is important to me, so I work at it – not even as faithfully as I should, but I am striving to learn more verses each year. Please don’t be amazed – it’s not me.  It’s the Lord Who has helped me.

Today, I’m sharing with you the method I use to memorize Bible verses.  I pray it will help you and encourage you to begin working on at least one verse.  That’s where it starts! You can find that video  here, and the previous video here. You can also watch it below.

Don’t be defeated in this discipline, friends.  Start with one verse and then add to that.  You can do all things through Christ who will strengthen you!  Philippians 4:13

What are you memorizing?  I’d love to hear!

Decorating Refresh

When other people step into our homes, they can see things that we cannot see.  We can grow accustomed to a pile here or a poorly placed piece of furniture. I recently had an old friend with me for a few days.  She happens to have a real eye for decorating.  She offered to give me some rearranging advice and I was thrilled to accept!  She noticed things that I had overlooked, and her eyes and her touch brought a refreshment to my living and dining room!

Longevity’s Blessings

img_5750

As a woman ages, there are certain subjects that she is able to address that would have been out of her zone when she was younger.  One such subject is longevity.  I’ve lived long enough now to say I’ve experienced longevity in:

  • Life!  Creeping up on 60 years is a blessing from the Lord!
  • Marriage!  Thirty-seven years and counting!
  • Ministry!  Thirty-seven years as a pastor’s wife.

I’m not an expert in any area, but I’ve been through much in each.  I’m thankful for the things the Lord has taught me.

Recently my husband was asked to come speak at a church on this very subject and I was Continue reading “Longevity’s Blessings”

Side dish

Fried Green Tomatoes

img_5725I recently had the blessing of visiting my parents in Kentucky for several days.  Aside from sweet times of chatting and visiting, we also had some great meals, as is always true when I visit them in their home! My mom is a great cook, and is frequently trying new recipes.

The beauties above are Fried Green Tomatoes that she made as a side dish for dinner one night.  Oh my goodness!  These are the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried them at different restaurants as we’ve traveled.  The secret is that there is a little sweetness in the breading that comes with the addition of some brown sugar!
