Four Tips for Growth

This post is part of the continuing series as we review A Woman After God’s Own Heart, by Elizabeth George.

I heard about a woman who was having a dinner party and fixed an elaborate meal.  Everything was cooking, chilling and baked, ready for her guests that would arrive a couple hours later, but she found herself hungry.  She sat down and ate a couple of large candy bars “just to tide herself over.” When it came time to serve her guests, she had no appetite for the lavish meal!

We are guilty of doing the same thing when we foolishly binge on things that have no value to our spiritual life.   Let’s glean some great practical advice that Elizabeth George was given by a friend that will help us to grow spiritually because we’re feasting on God’s Wisdom.

The “I Will’s” of Homemaking

I’m the kind of person who needs a picture drawn in order to understand things better. Anyone else like that? Being a homemaker is drawn out so well in God’s Word, and it reveals that it’s more about who we are than what we do. It can seem overwhelming, but it’s really not as hard as we make it.

As a follow-up on my post on Wednesday about weaving a tapestry of beauty in our home, I”d like to offer two suggestions that will help us know how to implement those truths in God’s Word. My suggestions are regarding the list of “I will’s” that Elizabeth wrote in her book (A Woman After God’s Own Heart). My suggestions are given with a desire for all of us to implement these disciplines into our daily lives. How can we do that?

Keep on Building

A wise woman knows that building her home has many faces.

  1. When she stopped to play baseball with the children in the backyard, she was building into the life of her child.
  2. When she spent time scouring the pantry and freezer, then made a menu for the week using those items, she was building her family.
  3. When she took time to organize the closets,, she was building her home.
  4. When she left that little note on her husband’s pillow, she was building her marriage.

Keeping Your Husband Your Best Friend

Continuation of our series and review of the book, A Woman After God’s Own Heart.

I love getting to counsel women who are engaged and preparing for marriage. They are excited about their new life ahead with this man whom they love so much. I remember when I was in that stage of life – I couldn’t imagine that I could love Dale any more than I did at that moment.  But Paul writes in Titus that the older women should instruct the younger women to love their husbands!  Why?
Because life happens.
Struggles come.
Sinners sin and love can be tested and strained.
Therefore, younger women need to be taught how to love when it’s not all violin music and ocean sunsets.
