Four Tips for Growth

This post is part of the continuing series as we review A Woman After God’s Own Heart, by Elizabeth George.

I heard about a woman who was having a dinner party and fixed an elaborate meal.  Everything was cooking, chilling and baked, ready for her guests that would arrive a couple hours later, but she found herself hungry.  She sat down and ate a couple of large candy bars “just to tide herself over.” When it came time to serve her guests, she had no appetite for the lavish meal!

We are guilty of doing the same thing when we foolishly binge on things that have no value to our spiritual life.   Let’s glean some great practical advice that Elizabeth George was given by a friend that will help us to grow spiritually because we’re feasting on God’s Wisdom.

Roasted Shrimp with Orzo

I’m so happy to share another Ina Garten recipe with you. We’ve had more hot days, so I searched for more shrimp recipes! Even if it’s not a summer day, this recipe is a perfect quick meal that can even be made ahead of time. It’s one of those dishes that is so savory it tastes like it came from a fancy restaurant

The “I Will’s” of Homemaking

I’m the kind of person who needs a picture drawn in order to understand things better. Anyone else like that? Being a homemaker is drawn out so well in God’s Word, and it reveals that it’s more about who we are than what we do. It can seem overwhelming, but it’s really not as hard as we make it.

As a follow-up on my post on Wednesday about weaving a tapestry of beauty in our home, I”d like to offer two suggestions that will help us know how to implement those truths in God’s Word. My suggestions are regarding the list of “I will’s” that Elizabeth wrote in her book (A Woman After God’s Own Heart). My suggestions are given with a desire for all of us to implement these disciplines into our daily lives. How can we do that?

Homemaking – A Tapestry of Beauty

If you’ve ever done cross stitch, or embroidery you know that to create  anything that turns into something beautiful takes planning.  It takes time.  It takes instruction.  It takes intentionality. So when we think about weaving a tapestry in our home, we know that none of these steps can be avoided.  The ultimate Guide is God’s Word.  He tells us what it should look like.  Then it’s up to us to take the needle in hand, and begin the tedious day-to-day work that is necessary.

Let’s look into God’s Word to get more instruction.  Titus 2 says

Admonish the young women to be homemakers.  (Verse 5)

If that word brings to mind the dull, boring task of mundane chores, I ask you to read carefully and let your heart be encouraged about this important role.

Cool Supper On a Hot Day

I love shrimp any way it comes. Not only is it delicious, it’s so fast to cook! On a hot summer day, shrimp is a great option for supper because the oven will only need to be on a short amount of time!

I recently posted about making Honey-Drizzled Shrimp Tacos for our supper. I was attempting to replicate a recipe we’d enjoyed while on our recent vacation. My version was a little lighter, since I roasted the shrimp instead of frying it. I also skipped the extra aoli sauce. The results were still delicious! Here’s how I made our tacos:
